The Electronic Travel Authorization for Canada

Visa-exempt foreign nationals must have an electronic travel authorization or e-visa to travel or transit in Canada. This authorization is electronically linked to your passport and is valid for two years. Only citizens of the countries below are eligible for the Canada ETA and can currently travel to the country without a visa.

Canada ETA: the Eligible Countries

Most European countries are eligible for the Canada ETA. In the list, we can mention Germany, France, Greece, Finland, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Portugal, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland, Ireland, Austria, Hungary, Denmark, Cyprus, Lithuania, Estonia, Italy, San Marino, Latvia, Spain, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Poland, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Vatican City State, Andorra, Malta and the United Kingdom. But there are also Hong Kong, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Chile, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan. So, if you are a national of one of these countries, you will not need a visa to travel in Canada, an ETA will be sufficient.

How to Get your Canada ETA?

To apply for an ETA online, you must be outside of Canada and intend to travel for tourism or for business by air. The request can be submitted at any time before the trip. You must be in good health and have no criminal history. You must provide information identical to that appearing in your valid passport. The travel authorization is validated directly with the passport number. You do not need to print the document because everything is electronically archived. The price of an online ETA application for Canada is EUR49.

Canada ETA Validation Period

If your Canada ETA is accepted, you can enter the Canadian territory as many times as you want for 2 years or until the expiration of your passport. With this e-visa, you can visit Canada for up to six months per stay or until the date prescribed upon arrival by a border services officer. In general, applicants receive their authorization immediately within a few minutes and some obtain a pending decision (up to 72 hours).

In the Event of a Refusal

If the Canada ETA request is refused, you can still apply for a temporary residence visa from the consular services of a Canadian embassy. If the authorization is pending, a final response will be received within 72 hours. If you lose, forget or do not have access to their request number or their travel status, they can retrieve their request number from the website on which you applied.
